I work as a PR specialist with people who are experts and who have been building their position in different markets. We work together on building a bridge which reaches their goals. Both my experience and my belief let me create 7 rules which are features of a good PR specialist to my mind.
What is this work about?
A PR specialist does not only focus on image, however it is usually the first step. His job is also about a strategic planning and identifying directions of client’s development. He is a guard of a consistent and authentic story of a person. His job is based on talks, consulting and using customer’s personal strenghts and unique features to create a successful and true story.
7 rules and happiness?
These 7 rules are not a must, but for me they are crucial features which describe the relation between PR specialist and his customer. Thanks to following these rules I sleep well and I wake up as a happy person. Every day I try my best to follow the 7 rules. They guarantee both a good job and life according to my rules. To others they offer a choice. I wish the people who work with me got their goals still feeling comfortable both in life and business.
1st Rule
You cannot see a good PR specialist. Image is so consistent and true that you even do not think that any PR person work on it. So, a PR specialist should be always in the shadow as he is not the main character of this story.
2nd Rule
A Public Rrlations specialist never creates an image, but he works on decoding it and then he chooses PR instruments that will spread info about the person.
3rd Rule
A good PR specialist listens to, supports, talks, but never he pushes to do anything. Decisions always belong to the customer. Such a PR specialist is the best guide in hard times and a good person to talk to every time.
4th Rule
A Public Relations specialist never chooses the speed of work, but he follows a natural pace of work of the person he cooperates with. More, he tries to slow down – festina lente– as decisions should be double checked and customer must be sure of them.
5th Rule
The priority is building the bridge which will connect the person with their goal. So a PR specialist with the customer work together on planning, building, developing this bridge and this is a long term task. A PR specialist is not a slave (who follows orders), but a partner, a guide and a mentor – it depends on a situation.
6th Rule
I work with people whom I like, respect and admire, because at this work involvement is a must and it is not because of professionalism ( which is not enough in this case), but because of an emotional bond which lets for understanding, being close and developing an unique relation based on trust.
7th Rule
I do not want a person/ customer depend on me and my services. My aim is to let them manage with their image and PR activities themselves. I try to teach how to go fishing and enjoy it, instead on serving ready fish meals.
